Founded in 2003, the idea and dedication for the creation of GeorgiaBabysitters.com came not from inspiration but from desperation. As a working mother of three boys, I have had much experience with finding, hiring, and retaining babysitters; these experiences have been increasingly frustrating.

Recently, my husband and I moved into a new community and began a search for yet another babysitter. Personal references failed to lead us to an adequate babysitter, so we placed an expensive help wanted ad in the local newspaper. Though this eventually did lead to our hiring a pleasant energetic young woman to care for the boys, the newspaper ad began a barrage of non-stop phone calls. Screening through the phone calls, we arranged interviews with several potential babysitters who proved quickly into the interview to be poorly suited for our needs- often based on simple information that could have been known before spending our or the babysitters' time. Many other unsuited babysitters were turned away after a ten minute telephone interview. Finding our babysitter was painful and time consuming.

If only there had been a database with a detailed profile of each babysitter, we could have narrowed our search down to one or two potential sitters. From this idea we began a project consulting friends, parents and IT personnel to create what we hope will be an answer to Georgia's working parents' dilemma finding childcare.
